You already know how important a daily routine is with diabetes. Insulin pump therapy helps make that routine a lot easier, but you should check off the important stuff every day.


To help you get into the pumping groove, we've developed a "Daily 4", a simple system that will help you develop good pumping habits. Read the quick list here, then download this handy printable daily checklist you can consult every day. Here's a summary of the checklist.


Insulin Pump Daily 4

  1. Check your sugars. Check your blood glucose levels according to your healthcare professional's instructions. Suggested times include before and 2 hours after meals, before bedtime, and when you have symptoms of, or suspect, hypoglycemia.

  2. Check your infusion site. Inspect the skin where you usually place your cannula or needle.

  3. Check your infusion set. Make sure your set has been primed, and that there aren’t any kinks, occlusions, or bubbles in your tubing.

  4. Check your pump. Review the status of your pump, and look for alarm messages. Check that the correct basal program is running, and review the bolus history.
